Fumi was first introduced to JLL by her boss but was ultimately motivated to choose the company for three reasons.

“The Capital Market Department is a sales division, so the evaluation system is inevitably performance-based. But, what appeals to me is that regardless of your age, sex, educational background, or the number of years you’ve been with the company, you’re provided with the opportunity to make big decisions, and this allows you to gain valuable experience with facing major challenges. Even if you are young, you can be at the center of a project and hold decision-making responsibility. These opportunities allow me to develop my skills more rapidly. I value working in Capital Markets because it means being surrounded by an ambitious team.

Though it can be difficult to stay cool under pressure in a competitive environment, I find that I thrive in the freedom working in this position gives me. And it’s motivating to see how my hard work pays off.”

Fumi also appreciates JLL’s globally-minded outlook, which has provided her with the opportunity to gain experience in cross-border transactions.

“In addition to the virtues of the competitive environment, working at JLL means that I have been able to experience cross-border transactions, namely inbound transactions, in conjunction with the JLL offices located throughout the world. I think this is one of the real pleasures of working for a foreign real estate company. Furthermore, I’ve been able to use language skills meaningfully and set language-related goals. At JLL, simply being able to use another language is not enough; you are required to negotiate while navigating the complexity of differing overseas cultural customs. Although there are unique challenges in working in a company that liaises with global offices, the feeling of accomplishment is absolutely worth the effort.”

Finally, Fumi highlights JLL’s organizational culture, and the emphasis placed on teamwork and enthusiastic collaboration.

“You might imagine that in a competitive, performance-based environment, you will inevitably become an exclusively individually-minded player. But, at JLL, we collaborate actively within and between departments, as well as with our regional counterparts. If I need help, I can count on my colleagues to support me. If a project contains various tasks that necessitate cooperation with other departments, each department pitches in to help complete the project. Since we work on projects with such a driven and collaborative team, the quality of services offered to customers ends up being much higher.”
